Teachers are in a position where they need to thoughtfully incorporate literature that will foster empathy and build inclusive learning environments. In this presentation, picture books and YA literature will be explored to foster critical thinking, open-mindedness, and imaginative understanding. The presentation will offer resources and strategies to reflect students’ identities and build an appreciation for different perspectives, thereby building inclusive communities.
