The Fort Museum is dedicated to preserving the history of the North West Mounted Police and First Nations People in the area. The museum was built and first opened in 1957. We are also home to the Governor General's History Award achieving program "The March of the Red Coats" where the young and the old can learn about the history of the NWMP in a fun and entertaining way. The Fort Museum is located at Fort Macleod, Alberta and is one of the main attractions in southern Alberta. The museum includes 8 buildings, over 11,000 artifacts, and an archival collection. The museum houses two of the oldest buildings in the area that are restored on their original sites: the Fred Kanouse trading cabin and Frederick Haultain’s law office.
